Triple Threat History From California to Colorado….
Triple Threat was originated in 2007, by Eric Mobley in a small city in Southern California named Murrieta. Shortly, after is when Ron Newble, joined forces with Eric to have one of the well-known Travel Basketball Clubs in the Valley. Eric Mobley was a former college basketball player for the Portland Pilots, and played overseas for some time. Ron Newble was a former high basketball player, and a high school CIF referee for many years in North County San Diego. Combining their knowledge and experience lead to a successful basketball program for youth boys and girls. Eric and Ron’s sons where part of the Triple Threat program until they transitioned onto a nationally recognized elite team (Compton Magic). It is where Eric’s sons are now still competing. Ron’s son transitioned into playing college basketball, while the other retired as a senior in high school due to injuries. Triple Threat continued with Skills and Drills and a few select Elite Teams who competed till 2018…
Although, Murrieta, CA is small town of about 170,000, Triple Threat has helped more than 20 players through their youth career process go on to play College Basketball at all Division Levels - Men & Women. Notable players: Sedrick Barefield (University of Utah), Michael Curley (University of LaVerne), Austin Beech (Adelphi University), Bryce Denham (Lawrence University), Nasrin Ulel (Florida Gulf), Brendon Newble (Grossmont College), Gabby Stoll (Westmont College), Caleb Giordano(San Diego State), Anthony Smith(Palomar College), Cole Clark(Augustana College), Isaiah Mobley – USC , Evan Mobley - #1 in the Nation (2020 Class) and a Gold Medalist for the USA Olympic Team, and many others. UPDATE: Evan was drafted in the NBA 3rd to the Cleveland Cavaliers and his brother Isaiah in the 3rd round, also to Cleveland.
Spring of 2018 was a transitional wave for both Coaches. Coach Eric was offered an Assistant Coach position at USC, and Coach Ron accepted a new Sales Mgr. position in Colorado. It was decided that Triple Threat – California needed to dissolve due to the significant life changes both where faced with and focus on their new chapters. Eric is now happily working as Assistant Coach, and Ron is happily living in the state with his family and working as a Sales Mgr. Both Coaches remain very close friends, along with their families.
In December of 2018, conversations began regarding resurrecting Triple Threat, which lead to the process and finalizing the registration of Triple Threat Colorado, Inc. with the State of Colorado as a non-profit organization. The launch of Triple Threat Colorado, Inc. is a very exciting chapter for Coach Ron and family. He looks forward to teaching youths in the area the fundamentals of the game, in addition, to building confidence, and character on /off the court.
